GREAT BARRIER REEF, AUSTRALIA

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system and one of the most breathtaking natural wonders on Earth. It is composed of over 2900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching over 2300 kilometres over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. It has been a world heritage site since 1981. It is home to thousands of marine species, including sea turtles, reef sharks, clownfish, manta rays, and over 400 types of coral. Due to the attraction being in the middle of the ocean, visitors must boat to the reef from one of the nearby coastal cities. By far the closest and easiest city is Cairns, which also offers a variety of Great Barrier Reef.
